Lyca Mobile is one of the world’s largest MVNOs, running on the EE network in the UK, which means genuinely strong nationwide coverage (99%+ 4G, plus 5G) despite the budget pricing. It’s especially popular with international communities thanks to its calling perks.

🌍 Where Lyca Really Stands Out: International Calling

Lyca’s biggest differentiator is genuinely generous international minutes bundled into most plans, calling to 40+ countries including the US, Australia, and India, with most plans including at least 100 minutes. Combined with free EU roaming (up to 35GB depending on the bundle), it’s a strong pick if you regularly call or travel to family abroad.

✔️ Pros
✔ Runs on the EE network, with strong coverage and 5G access at no extra cost
✔ Genuinely competitive pricing, especially for light-to-medium data users
✔ No credit checks, making it accessible to newcomers to the UK without a credit history
✔ Strong international calling allowances built into most plans
✔ Instant eSIM activation available alongside physical SIMs
✔ Free EU roaming included on many bundles

✖️ Cons to Consider
✖ Lyca Mobile has faced real financial and business difficulties: reported £25m+ losses, an ongoing HMRC VAT dispute, and UK staff redundancies in late 2024
✖ Introductory prices revert to a higher standard rate afterward, so check the full pricing before committing
✖ As a budget MVNO, customer support responsiveness can be more limited than with a major network directly

💬 Final Verdict
If you want low-cost UK coverage on a genuinely solid network (EE) with strong international calling built in, Lyca Mobile is one of the more compelling budget SIM options in the UK, especially for anyone who regularly calls overseas. Just go in with eyes open about the company’s recent financial troubles, and read the specific plan terms carefully since promotional pricing is often introductory-only.
