Wi-Fi security cameras are easy to buy and a pain to maintain: batteries to recharge, and often a monthly fee to see your own clips. Eufy’s SoloCam S340 is aimed squarely at both problems with a built-in solar panel and local storage. Here is what Eufy’s Australian page and an independent UK review say about it.
☀️ Solar power that keeps up
Eufy’s listings describe the S340 as solar-powered with a 3K camera, and the SoloCam range as needing about 2 hours of direct daily sunlight with no battery changes. In Expert Reviews’ test, the panel raised the battery from 70% to 100% within a few days and held above 90% through overcast days. One caveat: the included solar cable is only about two metres, so the panel location may limit where you can mount it.
👀 Two lenses, one wide view and one close-up
The S340 records a wide 1x view and a 3x close-up at the same time, which the reviewer found useful for seeing the whole area and specific details. The motorised camera pans 360 degrees, tilts, follows movement and can save four preset views, though tracking sometimes jumped between two people. Eufy’s AU page lists 3K resolution and 8x zoom for the S340 bundles, and the reviewer called video quality “very good”, with night vision working in colour or greyscale.
💾 Storage, alerts and no subscription
Clips are saved to 8 GB of built-in local storage in the reviewer’s setup, with no subscription required for storage. Alerts arrived in about five seconds, clips included a second or two before motion began, and the AI distinguished people from birds, pets and moving shadows. Setup, including mounting, should take under an hour. Note that the camera supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
🏠 Where it fits in the Eufy range
Eufy’s AU page also lists the eufyCam C37 (360° pan-and-tilt with AI tracking), the eufyCam S4, the Floodlight Camera E340, the Video Doorbell E340 and HomeBase hubs, so you can start with a camera or two and expand.
✔️ Pros
- Two views at once (wide plus 3x close-up), with motorised pan and tilt
- Solar panel kept the battery topped up in the reviewer’s test
- Local storage and no subscription needed for storage, per the review
- Quick alerts and AI that separates people from birds, pets and shadows
- Part of a wider range with doorbells, floodlights and a hub
✖️ Cons
- Fairly bulky, and the solar panel may not suit every location
- Short solar cable (about 2 m)
- No geofencing at the time of the review
- Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only
- Tracking sometimes jumped between two people
- The review is a UK test of the S340, so check the Australian listing and bundle for your version
💬 Final Verdict
If you want an outdoor camera that charges itself and does not require a monthly fee for your clips, the S340 is a strong candidate, as long as you have a sunny spot to mount it. Use the AU page to compare bundles and current offers.
